A teaser of sorts for a sequel to The Twins. I made this watercolor in order to feel good about myself after botching and restarting the first page of the actual commission. This one's gonna have it all, I tell ya. A cemetery, a mysterious woman in red, a plague mask... what more could you want?

They were bronze Masks, with crystal eye lenses made near the end of middle ages. Around the 3rd black plague.
"Plague Doctors" wore them with large wool coats sealed in bees wax in a sort of medieval Haz Mat Suit.
The believed at the time was the black plague was spread by "Bad Air". So the mask would have a long beak with a air hole at the end.
In mask makes the wearer would then stuff the beak full of straw, perfumes, and scents as a way of driving away the bad air.
Plague Doctors them selves were not accualy doctors. There were uesly poor/Homeless men pulled off the streets. There job was just to see if someone died from the plague, and if they did to get rid of the body.
You wear payed a lot of money to do this job. But not many people wanted to take it, do to the fact you wear working around high contagious dead bodies...
Only the most desperate of men became Plague Doctors.
The form of the bird was chosen, since bits of paganism still srounded the bird being a mystical creature. You never saw a bird die from plague. And bird flew in the sky. There for they were close to god. This was in the hopes of warding away the plague.
The Plague Doctors and Plague masks of the late Middle Ages is why today to associate the Raven with Death.
