Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me. :la:

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Good News / Bad News

Hey, guess what, everybody?  The new trade paperback of The Underburbs is out.   Simply called Underburbs: Volume II, it is a collection of Issues 4 through 7, and has nearly 30 pages of special features, like deleted scenes, early sketches, and character commentary.

If you don't know what The Underburbs is, then you should click on this [link] right now, and give my other gallery the love and attention it deserves.  You can even click it before you finish reading this journal.  This has been the end of the good news, and there is no fun beyond this sentence.

•••BAD NEWS•••

Hey, so guess what else happened?  I wrecked my car!  First of all, nobody involved in the collision was hurt, so that's good.  But I don't even know what's going on with my car.  They haven't even been able to get the hood open yet.  I'm hoping I'm not going to end up paying for a bunch of body work just so they can find out the engine is completely effed.  

What does that mean here on DeviantArt?  Well, not having a car throws my life into more chaos than usual.  As a result, I've been in a state of suspended inspiration.  It's hard to get in the mood to create art when I have to think about how to get to work, where to buy groceries, talk to insurance people/mechanics, etc.  I'm trying to find time to finish the commissions I'm on, and hopefully get to the people who have sent notes.  It will happen.  Hopefully, this mess will be cleared up before the end of the month.
