Angela stood up straight, folding her hands in front of her. The new and freshly-starched apron grew longer, reaching past her knees. Ruffled straps climbed over her shoulders. The hem of her dress grew longer as well. A simple white cap rested on her hair, which was becoming a shade of brown so muted it could almost be said to be grey. She placed her sensibly-stockinged legs together and stood perfectly still. Despite her stance, though, her mind was racing.

What am I doing 'ere? she thought. Surely I should be preparing dinner, but not in the basement!

She was in the school, that much was certain. But she knew she did not belong there. But where, then? The only place she could think of that required servants was...

"Pale Manor! I've got to get back to work! Oh heavens, Lady Winifred'll have me 'ead!"
