...Previously...

A howl pierced Underborough's night sky. The moon was full tonight. What luck, Angela thought as she howled again. Becoming a werewolf via a magic spell did not require the full moon's light, but it just wouldn't be the same without it. Even so, howling for the sake of howling was fast losing its appeal. Wolves are pack animals after all, and Angela was alone. She needed a companion, and she needed one fast. She remembered the first Underborough resident she met, back before she was even a witch. Lyle the Wolfman!

Angela dashed through the woods. She knew exactly where Lyle would be, because he was always in the same place. A pack of werewolves had tied poor Lyle to a 30-foot dog run some time ago, but he grew accustomed to his solitary lifestyle. He had a nice view of the lake, too. He was scratching his back against a tree on one end of his line when Angela reached him.

"Hello, Lyle," she said huskily, slinking into the clearing.

Lyle continued scratching. "Hiya."

"It's a full moon tonight. Come... howl with me."

"That's okay, I was gonna turn in early toni-- heyyy, wait a minute... do I know you?"

"That depends. Do you remember a little girl asking if she could help untie you?"

Lyle paused for a moment, squinted, and sniffed. "...Angela?"

She slid a claw under his collar. "The same. And now I'm here to tell you I will untie you. You've spent enough time on this wire."

"What did you do to yourself? You weren't a werewolf before, and you definitely weren't..."

"...Grown up?" Angela asked, flashing her yellow eyes and drawing herself closer.

"Oh-h-h-h-kaaayyy..." Lyle said, lightly pushing her arm back.

"Don't you find me attractive?"

"That's the wolf talking. Listen, if I met you as a kid, and you came back like this eight, ten years later, it would be weird. But you were standing in this spot wearing little fuzzy pumpkin slippers less than a month ago. That's downright criminal!"

"But this is nature, Lyle!"

"Nature, schmature! This might look like the woods to you, but this is my district! I can't be galavanting around in the moonlight with a minor! It'd destroy my career as a councilman! Look kid, just go home, go to bed, wake up as a human, and forget this whole thing ever happened."

Angela yanked her hand from his collar and glared. "You are no wolf."

"I gave up my bestial urges. I am a wolf-man," Lyle said, delicately pointing to the invisible words in front of him.

"You are no man, either," Angela growled, turning.

"Sticks and stones, kid. Oooh, that reminds me! Pass me that stick, would ya? It fell right out of reach, and I'd really like to chew on it... Hey, you walked past it... O-okay... well, uh... never mind."

Lyle watched as the wolf-woman crept into the darkness.

"She'll get over it," he said, to no one in particular.
