Egads! The transformation page!
I'd just like to take this moment to say that I always just assumed that Bowser wanted to turn Peach into a Koopa. I'm going to confess that I got the idea from playing Super Mario Bros. and listening to "Stop Tryin'" by Huey Lewis and the News. Hey, it was 1986, and I didn't know any better. I was still in grade scool, where coolness would elude me until college or so.
Anyway, they had this one song where Huey sings, "She's exactly what she wants to be." Not 'who,' mind you, but 'what.' So I imagined that while Mario (or Luigi; I was the younger brother, so I was always assigned to the Player 2 position) was running to the princess' rescue, Bowser was standing there at the end of World 8-4 trying to convince the princess to convert, possibly with charts and graphs. She wouldn't have it, of course. She'd turn her nose up, cross her arms, and look away. Remember, the instruction booklet cited Bowser as a powerful sorcerer who turned many of the Mushroom Kingdom's residents into fenceposts and horsehair plants. So she could do a lot worse. She'd be a monster, but she'd be animate. Of course, Bowser is a gentleman, so the princess is still human when you dunk Bowser in the lava (or throw five fireballs at him if you're awesome). So this is a glimpse of what could have been.
Thanks, Huey.
