Rosemary vs. the Ultimoms by Mr-DNA Rosemary vs. the Ultimoms by Mr-DNA
Commission for :icondarlingyourehome:

A continuation of sorts to Rise of the Ultimoms! It's not technically an epilogue to an epilogue, meaning that I'm not writing a super long story for it. But I think it's pretty easy to piece together what's happening here. Rosemary comes home to the smell of fresh baked cookies and four grown women playing bridge in her living room. She is understandably upset, but Angela urges her to relax. When that doesn't work, Angela kindly asks Shelley and Jezebel to help her relax. Without even being prompted, in comes Winifred with a tray of Angela's special recipe.

Because of Angela's Magic Lesson, I've been using this space mostly for story and rarely to write about the art. I'm gonna do that here, because I'm pretty darn proud of this piece. It tackles a few drawing issues I struggle with: character interactions and shoes. All the characters are close together, touching or overlapping in some way. Sure, Winifred is sort of hanging out on the sidelines, but I think it all works. I looked up a lot of reference for the shoes, not just for styles but for tutorials on how to draw a shoe that actually looks like it has a foot in it. I don't have to patience to go step by step with most tutorials, but I think I absorbed enough of it to draw some decent heels. I also got to do a mid-transition clothing change for Rosemary, which is something I do less often due to the step-by-step nature of the AMLs.

Other than that, this was a fun chance to update the designs from one of the earliest epilogues. Originally, Angela was the only one with a full-body view. Getting to figure out the rest of the dresses and making them all unique was fun. Shelley got some geometric nut-flowers printed on her dress (they were embroidered on her sweater before), while Bel got pretty much a complete overhaul with her patterned pants and bigger hair. I borrowed a lot from Winifred's design in Mentor-nal Instinct, and the pattern on her skirt was a last-minute decision, as I didn't want her to look too plain. Rosemary's emerging skull/pumpkin pattern is a callback to her original design from over ten years ago.

Hope you all enjoy this as much as I enjoyed drawng it!

My, how feminine Jezebel has become! In the epilogue, she had shorter hair and PANTS. Now... she still has pants, but her hair looks much more feminine ^_^

Your girls are so beautiful in this outcome! ^_^

I felt like I rushed Bel's design in the original. I had a lot more fun with the hair and proportions in this update.

By the way, what does "Bel" in Jezebel mean? Belial?

It's short for Jezebel. She just takes her nickname from the back end of her name rather than the front.

Cute designs and impressive interaction in terms of posing and overlapping. Well done all around with this pic! :)

Thanks! Interaction is something I'm trying to work on, and I think I did pretty okay with this one.

Hmm, I think my regret here is that we don't see Rosemary completely changed but I'm not going yak about it.

Sides, this is the closest we get as an expansion to the Archie-esqe Epilogue.

They look good!

Good on the commissioner for getting some full body shots.

Maybe someone could do it for the "Like Magic and Stuff" Ending =P (Razz)

Even when there are no options given to continue the series, I still get people calling out numbers in the comments.

Ok, I think I've come up with a phrase that will repel any 1950's Stepford wife. I haven't tested it, but I'm pretty sure it will work. The phrase is:

"Please step aside, I am a Jewish, gay, pot-smoking communist who doesn't like pies."

Not the reefer!

All joking aside, this is probably about as socio-political as anything on my page will get. But I should just get this out of the way. This is just a goofy transformation drawing and does not reflect my views on the role of women. There. Nothing like burying a disclaimer in a single reply to smooth things over. Yup. Wrapped in a neat little package.

Great details on the dresses. And now that you mention it the shoes have adorable little adds to them:  heavier stitching, cloven hooves, bat accents

Thanks! I try not to make anything too similar. And even in the Underburbs comic, Bel always has either open-toed shoes or footwear that just magically molds to her hooves.

"Angela, do you mind if I take your recipe home with me, I'd love to give some to Abigail." Winifred asked Angela.

"Oh, yes that's fine. And please invite her to bridge next time you come over." Angela answered.

So if it's like this for the women, does that mean the men would become 1950s sitcom-like husbands?

The men become clean-cut but emotionally distant businessmen. Not as much fun to draw.

Not the only one, but I'd do those a lot more sparingly, since the art itself takes a lot more time. But it's not the first, either. This pic was sort of one, too.
